Day 125: With a twist

In this month of gratitude, I would like to express thanks to my outfit project for helping me to wear my polos.  I've given away a good number of them over the years because I am not a golfer, nor a man, and I generally don't feel so pulled together in them. But I felt good in this purple polo on Day 69, and I think the collar added to this outfit today. Now I just have to figure out how to keep everything smoother under my sweater. It's looking bunchy under there.

Day 120: Same skirts, rotating shirts

Yesterday I had a few friends over, and I was tempted to scoop up all of the shirts out of my "unworn" drawer and give them away. With the exception of my sweaters, since it hasn't been that cold for too long, I'm pretty sure that if I haven't worn a shirt yet, I am not that interested in wearing it. But I promise that I'll wear everything, and I anticipate that I will have caught up on my whole existing wardrobe by the end of the year. I do want to remind you that I haven't been photographing every single outfit I wear, but I've posted at least one picture for every day since I started on July 6.  For instance, I didn't take a picture of my "Good Game, Let's Go Eat" shirt that I wore for game night last night. But you can know that it was awesome anyway.

Day 116: Camping in Old City

Okay, I admit it. I need some variety in my sweater collection. I have this brown one, the black one I already wore, a white one I haven't worn yet, and I think Betsy has the pink one right now. They're not all exactly the same, but you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the styles. Do you think I could add some elbow patches on this one to add a bit of excitement?

To work through my wardrobe, I was wearing this outfit with a light-weight (summery) zip-up melon-colored hoodie overtop. It wasn't a great look, which means I think it's time to get rid of that top.  One time in college a girl was wearing that hoodie and I didn't realize until later that I had the same one.

Day 95: Coming home

Late Saturday night, I changed after dinner from my Lilly dress into this casual shorts and shirt combination.  I only wore it for a few hours of sitting around with a few old friends and lots of new ones, so I incorporated the pieces into Sunday's outfit as well.  I had to change my plans for what to wear on the plane ride back because I wasn't going to wear the white pants anymore.  I had a feeling that upon landing in Philly, I'd really regret the shorts, but I didn't! It was unseasonably warm on Sunday night around 11 pm and I was actually a bit too toasty in that cab coming home.  These layers served me well.  FYI: Apparently you're not allowed to take pictures in the baggage claim area of PHL.

I'm sorry my vacation posts were a little out of order; I hope you still can see that I had a great vacation and am very happy for my newly married friends. I packed super lightly for this trip, and I think it worked out, and I wore all but two tank tops that I packed.  Not bad, considering I didn't know what to expect!

Day 95: Rain on the last day

And the blog claims another victim. This shirt is out! In theory, it's a very pretty and classic white shirt. In reality, it is about 6 inches too long, which means it looks good with nothing I own. On Sunday morning, I pulled the shirt tight and twisted the back and tucked that part into the back of my shorts. Not a very practical way of wearing what should be a very practical shirt.  I do remember a time when this shirt worked on me, which means either the fit has changed drastically, or I used to walk around swimming in the shirt. In either case, this shirt and I are going to part ways.  You can't think of a way to style it so that it would work, can you?

A chilly, rainy day is a good way to not be too sad to leave vacation. Dave and I were planning on going parasailing with the bride and groom, but unfortunately, the rain meant that instead, we drank a little, ate a lot, and played some life-size Connect 4 before grabbing that shuttle back to the Montego Bay airport.

Day 79: A Story About a Vest

Yesterday's necklace was from Margaret, and today's vest is another gift from her, so I should give you a bit of background. After my grandmother, Aga, passed away in 1995, my grandfather, Pa, started going to church. It was there that he met Margaret for the second time. The first time was when she went to her brother's school dance at McDonogh, where all of the other boys, including a young Pa, were captivated by her.  She became a model, married a movie star, and then, years and years later, married Pa in 1997.

As this story relates to the blog, for Christmas, Aga gave me Life Savers and Hans Christian Andersen books. In 1996, Pa gave me an LL Bean tote that I didn't appreciate at the time, but completely adore now. And since then, Margaret has been giving me clothes from brands I hadn't heard of before I met her.  Margaret introduced me to Anthropologie in the 90's, as well as her old friend Lilly Pulitzer. This vest is from Banana Republic and is one of a number of cold-weather pieces she has given to me as a gift. These days, Margaret lives in a retirement home in Maryland, where everyone calls her Ms. Hollywood, and she is more glamorous than I could ever hope to be.

Day 48: At Least I Didn't Wear Heels with This

Some might argue that this dress is too short. It's also kind of baggy when I don't belt it. That does make it a good candidate for something to swap at my end-of-the project clothing swap.  But it was only $4.99! I can also say crazy things like "It won't look too short if I wear it with dark tights when it's cold out!" to try to rationalize it.

If I had to guess, I would estimate that the project might end around December 15. At that point, I'll start getting some nice winter clothes, and the project will continue forever!

Belt: J. Crew and I wear this one and the black one every day so I will stop acknowledging their existence. These belts are the best because they have notches the whole way around so I can wear them on my waist and my hips!

Day 27: Yellow, Reimagined

This outfit makes me so happy to be working on my challenge. In 2007, I placed this bright yellow dress in the laundry with a purple bathing suit. A mistake I'll never make again! With a couple rounds of bleach, the dress was salvaged, but I've never worn it since.  It was never just right, but I am happy with the way it turned out with this shirt on top.  There is hope!

Day 26: The Baltimore Blues

I have a new favorite museum: the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. None of their artists have received formal training, so their works are all over the map. For the most part, though, they are humorous, glittery, interactive, and whimsical, so I love them all.
For a trip to the museum and lunch with Dave's sister Rebecca and her husband Dan, I wore this blue dress and a scarf as a belt. A good day!

Day 25: Sitting Around Saturday

Today was another quiet one: we didn't have any plans to go out, and we couldn't venture far, since I agreed to babysit for some neighbors tonight, and because it's hot out there! So we went downstairs and played card games with Courtney and Jeff, and now I am watching tv in someone else's house. Let me know if you ever want to play games, because I am loving them right now!
If I get out before midnight, I will head over to Mike and Jen's house. I really hope I do!
